To Doo or not to Doo!!!!

I have been teaching Pilates at a small club next to my house for a few months. I was hesitant to do it at first just because of the commitment and a husband that works far away....made me nervous you know. But with a persistant owner I decided to give it a go. Once a week for one hour shouldn't be that big a deal right. WRONG! It seems like it's been way more stressful than actually relaxing. They've changed the schedule a few times, plus lots of miscomunication and i've looked like the loser teacher that doesn't show up even though i did tell him i would be out of town. ANYWAYS, we're about to start up again and i'm just not sure if i really want to continue doing it. I really love teaching and it's a great excuse to get out and be healthy. but i have 4 kids and that pretty much tells you right there that life is pretty unpredictable. I don't want to lose the skill either. ahhhh....i just don't know what to do. Tell me what you guys think?

My philosophy has always been that if something adds stress and you don't have to do it, don't. I know it is a good motivator to be in shape and do something you enjoy, but to me, the extra stress is never worth it. Maybe you can still go to the classes, but at least if you're not teaching it's ok if you have a crazy day and can't make it. With 4 kids, that's a huge responsibility.

I'm with Krystal... I had a bit of a similar experience a while ago and found that the stress it was creating was taking away from my children. I was yelling and getting frustrated with the boys when really they were just being themselves (and thier age) and I was so out of the loop focusing on other things that I couldn't put my most important effort towards them... who should be my top priority... it was a hard thing to wrestle with.. finally I had to get a pep talk from friends to tell me it was okay to get out of it... do what you think is best.. your gut will tell you.. follow that! *wink*

I agree with "extra stress is never worth it" and "your gut will tell you." And I say "simplify, simplify, simplify" (my motto since a few months ago). I'm not telling you whether you should/shoudn't teach pilates, but definitely look at all the stuff you do, prioritize them and then see what you can cut out. Time and season for everything (I have trouble with this, believe me!), right? Don't worry about losing or not losing the skills, as long as your doing what you know is right for you, no need to worry about the future. Hope this helps. Love ya!

So, my question is: Is the stress coming from the owner due to the lack of communication or from having to go that one night a week? When you are there do you feel relaxed or are you wishing you were home? Do you have back-up sitters if Brett is caught at work? I think it's good to have this outlet. Of course go with your gut, but trying to have everything lined up in and in order will make it a more enjoyable "night-out" in my opinion.

I guess my question is WHY are you doing it? To get in shape? Extra money? To "get away"? Or to relax? If you're doing it to relax and unwind ... this doesn't look like a good option. If you're doing it more to get in shape ... well, like Krystal said, maybe you can be IN the class, not teach it. (Unless - like me! - you don't think you're disciplined enough. i.e. If you don't HAVE to be there, you won't be!)

Have you prayed about it?
